Sanctuary Treatment Center understands that alcohol addiction can be a complicated condition. It usually develops slowly. Recognizing that you have become addicted to alcohol can be difficult.

Contact us if you believe that you or someone you love might be suffering from the following stages.

Stage 1

A first stage in developing an addiction to alcohol is often occasional binge drinking or experimentation with alcohol. This stage is common for young adults. They don't become dependent or addicted to alcohol.

This stage can become more serious if you fall within one of the risk categories.

Stage 2

Next comes alcohol abuse. This stage is when you consume more alcohol than recommended by the NHS. In situations where alcohol consumption is inappropriate or to relieve anxiety, you may have also started drinking by yourself. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can increase your tolerance to alcohol.

If you drink alcohol to increase your mood or decrease stress, it could be an indication that you are developing an emotional or psychological dependency.

Stage 3

Next comes alcohol abuse. This stage is when you consume more alcohol than recommended by the NHS. In situations where alcohol consumption is inappropriate or to relieve anxiety, you may have also started drinking by yourself. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can increase your tolerance to alcohol.

Stage 4

Next comes alcohol abuse. This stage is when you consume more alcohol than recommended by the NHS. In situations where alcohol consumption is inappropriate or to relieve anxiety, you may have also started drinking by yourself. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can increase your tolerance to alcohol.

Stage 5

Alcohol addiction is the final stage. You will still need alcohol to function mentally and physically, but will not be able to enjoy the benefits of alcohol. This stage can cause intense cravings for alcohol and make it difficult to do the things you love. Stage five will see you unable to control your alcohol cravings.

Alcohol addiction can lead to a host of problems, including a loss of work, relationships and your health.
