Hi, everyone! My name is Niannian Liu. I have noticed some of my classmates find my Chinese name difficult to pronounce (not only some native English speakers, but also some Chinese classmates from south China), so you could call me Lynn as well. I am from China and currently live in Beijing. I am doing my master’s degree and my major is International Relations. This is my second semester in University of Melbourne. I have leant English as my second language since I went to primary school. Although I am still not fluent in English, I am glad that I could use English to learn Japanese now!
I am interested in Japanese culture very much since my primary school year. I am a Big Fan of Japanese anime. My favorite one is Naruto and Uchiha Itachi is my idol. I am also a Big Fan of 言の葉の庭. I learnt that this anime described the landscape of 新宿御苑(しんじゅくぎょえん), so I went specifically to this park in Tokyo in 2020. Although these characters are only in anime, I think Japan is still their hometown. I would like to learn my idol’s native language and to embrace Japanese culture. I want to learn Japanese writing and spoken skills. After this semester, I hope that I can greet with other people in Japanese and go shopping in Japanese shopping mall. When I travel to Japan next time, I can order food and check in or check out in Japanese by myself. That’s why I would like to learn Japanese.
I learnt that I could choose 25-point language subjects as my optional subjects from handbook, which means I could enroll in Japanese 1 and Japanese 2 in two semesters. I also noticed that Japanese 1 is only available in semester 1, 2021. Thus, I enrolled in Japanese 1 this semester instead of semester 2. I hope to improve my Japanese proficiency very much! Nice to meet you all! Thanks for your time!
